Comparison
We used each machine as a primary laptop for two weeks, covering writing, video editing, software development, and general productivity across identical tasks. Here is the definitive verdict.
Performance
MacBook Air M3 wins. It outperforms both Intel-powered competitors in CPU-intensive tasks while producing zero fan noise. The XPS 13 runs hot under sustained load; the Surface Pro 9 throttles more aggressively when docked without its Type Cover.
Battery Life
MacBook Air M3: 16.5 hours (our test). Dell XPS 13: 9.5 hours. Microsoft Surface Pro 9: 8 hours with Type Cover. The MacBook advantage is simply enormous and changes how you work — you stop thinking about chargers entirely.
Display
Surface Pro 9 edge: 2880×1920 PixelSense IPS, excellent touch and pen support. MacBook Air M3 second: excellent Retina display, beautiful colour. Dell XPS 13 third: glossy, prone to reflections in bright environments.
